A few days ago, soldiers swooped on members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), led by Sheik Ibrahim Yakubu El-Zakzaky.

The incident occured during the visit of Nigeria’s Army Chief, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, to a military function at the Nigerian Military Depot.

His convoy had encountered members of the Shiite Islamic sect, who barricaded the road leading to the military training facility in Zaria.

According to a recount by the military, efforts made by officers to persuade the Muslim Shiite members to make way for Buratai were resisted.

The violent face-off that ensued led to killing of members of the group including one of El-Zakzaky’s sons.

A consequent raid on El-Zakzaky’s residence injured the leader, after which he was arrested.

DAILY POST obtained image of wounded El-Zakzaky surrounded by soldiers on Monday.

Meanwhile, where he is being kept remains unknown, fuelling speculations that the military intends to crush the movement once and for all.
