Adele with her two awards in the press room at the 2012 Brit Awards

She had been tipped to top the bill at next year’s Brits since the summer, so it’s hardly a big surprise that Adele is the first artist to be confirmed for the big night in February.

But it will be first appearance in person at awards since she gave organisers the finger in 2012 when she was cut off midway through her acceptance speech after winning album of the year.

Adele , 27, is up for the same award again for this year’s biggest selling album, 25 with the Brits’ voting academy sorting out for the shortlist for the awards this week.

In 2013, she accepted the Best British Single award for Skyfall with a video message as she was rehearsing for the Oscars, so it will mark Adele’s first return to the ceremony since James Corden cut her off mid-acceptance speech when she won album of the year in 2012.

The singer, 27, was so outraged by the TV bosses’ decision, she gave show organisers the finger.

She later said: “‘I was about to thank the British public for their support. They cut me off, sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me.”

Somehow, in the past few years, “the suits” must have made it up to her...

We can’t wait.
