In a touching speech, he told guests of how he fell in love with Christine and also paid tribute to mum Pat, who died in 2008

Tearful Frank Lampard told wedding guests how he fell head-over-heels for his bride Christine Bleakley just a week after they met at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain awards.

The former Chelsea and England midfielder, 37, and TV host Christine, 36, partied until 4am today with a host of celebrity pals after tying the knot.

But before they tucked into a slap-up five-course dinner at posh venue The Arts Club in Mayfair, Central London, Frank made his touching speech .

As well as telling how he fell in love with Christine, he also paid tribute to his mum Pat, who died in 2008.

One guest said: “Franka was basically saying it was the best day of his life and he wished his mum had been there to see it.

"He said his mum would have loved Christine too if they had met and he got very choked up.”

Guests later moved to the basement for a boozy 10-hour bash, where Ed Sheeran played two sets.

At one point Frank, who now plays for New York City, leapt on stage for a duet of Westlife’s Flying Without Wings.

A source said: “Frank is normally quite shy but he couldn’t pass up the chance to sing with Ed. It was very light hearted, great fun and his friends and Christine loved it.”

Before they wed Christine revealed they were planning a “good old-fashioned knees-up”.

Speaking today on TV, guest Piers Morgan said Frank was “very tearful” during his speech – and revealed he warned him Christine was “out of his league” when they met at the Pride of Britain Awards in 2009.

“Christine came into the bar and Frank said, ‘Who’s that? She looks a bit of a sort’, which I think is East End for ‘She’s attractive.’

"I said, ‘She’s way above your league, mate,’” he said.

“Anyway, next thing, they get together. He said in his speech he was away playing for England and they spoke every night for four hours and just fell madly in love in one week.”

Other famous faces at the wedding at St Paul’s Church in Knightsbridge, included Phillip Schofield, designer Kelly Hoppen, Ant and Dec and Frank’s ex-teammates John Terry and Didier Drogba.

Christine’s old One Show co-host Adrian Chiles was also there.
