Crowdfunding is a great way to produce a dream. When you want to put a visual of art and animation into fruition, getting people excited about it is the first thing on the agenda.
Adamu Waziri (pictured), is a cartoon animator based in Abuja, Nigeria. Waziri came up with the idea for a new cartoon that familiarizes Brazilian children with African characters in a dynamic procession called “Bino & Fino.” The concept for “Bino & Fino” began bubbling in Waziri’s head almost a decade ago.
Waziri finally came up with a solid idea for his cartoon in 2008. He told The Huffington Post that he desired to make a Nigeria-based cartoon for a while. Waziri also said that he saw that a majority of Nigeria’s child television programs were primarily produced by companies from other countries across the world outside the continent of Africa.
“Basically, the world’s largest black nation doesn’t produce any cartoon shows for its children that reflected any of its culture or population,” Waziri said in his exclusive interview with The Huffington Post. “That sounded crazy to me,” he continued.
“Bino & Fino,” is a children’s cartoon, which features a brother and sister in a modern day African city. So far, Waziri and his production crew have put out two series of English-language DVDs for the show. They also have a toy range for an informative exhibition, which helps Brazilian children learn about Africa’s rich history.
“It was English speaking Brazilian fans of the show that made us fast-track our plans to create a Brazilian Portuguese-dubbed version,” Waziri said in his Huffington Post interview.
“They kept asking us if and when we would do a Portuguese version for them. That prompted us to look into the children’s media landscape in Brazil,” he continued.
Waziri and his production crew have launched a crowdfunding campaign called IndieGogo to spring this new idea forward. Around $1,000 has already been raised.
